FOSS Backstage

Open Source Beyond the Code

Open Source is about more than code. At FOSS Backstage, we explore the people, practices and structures that make Open Source projects work - from governance, economics and policy to security, operations, adoption and design.

FOSS Backstage will take place in Berlin and online on 2 & 3 March 2027.

Submit your proposal by 8 November 2026, 23:59 CET.

What we are looking for

Together with our program committee, we want to shape a program that truly is by the community, for the community.

We are looking for sessions that share practical experience, challenge established ways of thinking, or open up important discussions about Free and Open Source Software.

Open Source is constantly evolving, and we welcome submissions that engage with current developments. In 2027, this may include AI and its impact on software development, security and Open Source communities; the practical consequences of regulation such as the Cyber Resilience Act; digital sovereignty; or the role of Open Source in critical digital infrastructure. These are examples, not preferred topics.

For a detailed look at the full range of topics discussed at FOSS Backstage, please have a look at our list of conference tracks.

Review Process

All submissions will go through a blind review. The program committee will evaluate proposals based on their content without seeing the submitter's personal details.

We will inform you whether your proposal has been accepted, rejected or placed on the waiting list. If a suitable slot becomes available later, we may contact waitlisted speakers.

Speaker Perks

Speakers receive a free conference pass for the full duration of FOSS Backstage. If you have already bought a ticket before your proposal is accepted, we will refund it.

First-Time Speakers

You do not need to be an experienced conference speaker to submit to FOSS Backstage. We explicitly encourage first-time speakers and new voices to send us their ideas.

If you need help with the CfP process or have any questions about your submission, please contact us at speaker@foss-backstage.de.
