Driving the InnerSource Program at SAP
2025-03-11 , Auditorium

Open Source is great, but very few companies can afford to release all their source code to the world. Yet, it is still possible to benefit from open source best-practices and culture for in-house software projects and more. This exactly what InnerSource is. In session we will share about how we are driving InnerSource at SAP.

SAP has a long history in software development and also on introducing InnerSource in the company. In this talk we will share what we have done so far, what we have learned and our challenges. This will include the setup of our InnerSource Program, practices, such as creating documentation, tooling (InnerSource Portal and Linter) and spreading the word through presentations and community work. We also want to debunk the idea that InnerSource is a detriment to open source, where it is actually more often a stepping stone.

I’m a former software developer (still one occasionally and at heart) and now I work as InnerSource Officer at SAP. In this role I combine my passion for Open Source, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement to drive the adoption of InnerSource in the company and also collaborate with InnerSource practitioners on InnerSource Commons, where I’m also a foundation member.
