It is a common misconception that the availability of Free and Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) makes it the preferred choice for impoverished communities.
However, this is often not the case. What are the underlying reasons for this gap and how can we enhance FLOSS adoption in remote and underserved areas of the world like Africa?
In my talk, I will share personal experiences from my journey promoting FLOSS among organizations, businesses, and communities in East Africa.
I will outline effective strategies for introducing Free and Libre Open Source Software to diverse and economically challenged populations.
Key challenges such as unreliable Internet access and limited hardware will be addressed, along with potential solutions to these barriers.
By employing techniques such as thorough community needs assessments, building partnerships, showcasing successful FLOSS based projects, and providing capacity training, the audience will acquire practical skills and tools for fostering FLOSS adoption in less developed regions.
